Health trends in England: A new summary report to introduce Fingertips public health data to a broader audience.

Dementia new indicators factsheets (first published in May 2024) 

This series of factsheets show new indicators based on data published by NHS England during 2023 as part of the Primary Care Dementia Data (PCDD) publication. PCDD is extracted directly from primary care systems in England every month. 

The part 1 factsheet includes 5 new data themes, which are:

  • dementia new diagnoses and diagnosed dementia incidence rates
  • people with dementia who are also included in the primary care palliative and end of life care register
  • people with dementia who also have cardiovascular comorbidities recorded in primary care systems
  • people with mild cognitive impairment, not yet with a diagnosis of dementia (potential precursor to dementia)
  • people with dementia with a diagnosis prior to 65 years of age (young onset dementia)

Additional factsheets will be published in the near future that will include 2 new data themes, which are:

  • dementia diagnosis sub types which are Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, mixed dementias and other dementias
  • residential type of people with diagnosed dementia such as private residence, nursing home, residential home

All factsheets are interactive and have been developed to raise awareness of the new dementia data available from NHS England. The user can explore the latest trends at England, NHS region and integrated care board (ICB) level, for data published from April 2023. These factsheets have been developed as a one off ad hoc official statistics in development.
