Dementia new indicators factsheets (first published in May 2024)

This series of factsheets show new indicators based on data published by NHS England during 2023 as part of the Primary Care Dementia Data (PCDD) publication. PCDD is extracted directly from primary care systems in England every month.

The part 3 factsheet includes indicators on people with diagnosed dementia living in nursing or residential homes and the local service provision.

The part 1 factsheet and part 2 factsheet include 6 data themes, which are:

  • diagnosis sub types which are Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, mixed dementias and other dementias
  • dementia new diagnoses and diagnosed dementia incidence rates
  • people with dementia who are also included in the primary care palliative and end of life care register
  • people with dementia who also have cardiovascular comorbidities recorded in primary care systems
  • people with mild cognitive impairment, not yet with a diagnosis of dementia (potential precursor to dementia)
  • people with dementia with a diagnosis prior to 65 years of age (young onset dementia)

All factsheets are interactive and have been developed to raise awareness of the new dementia data available from NHS England. The user can explore the latest trends at England, NHS region and integrated care board (ICB) level, for data published from April 2023. These factsheets have been developed as ad hoc official statistics in development.
