Mental health and wellbeing JSNA

Advance notice - removal of the Mental health and wellbeing JSNA profile

Following the response to the health and social care statistical outputs consultation and further user engagement webinars conducted throughout May and June 2025, the 'Mental health and wellbeing JSNA' profile will be removed on 4 November 2025. The structure of the 'Mental health and wellbeing JSNA' profile and its content will be largely used by the new and combined 'Perinatal, children and young people's mental health' and 'Adult mental health and wellbeing' profiles.

The proposals on the removal of the 'Mental health and wellbeing JSNA' profile and on the structure and content of the 'Perinatal, children and young people's mental health' and 'Adult mental health and wellbeing' profiles were available for feedback throughout July 2025. Please note that following this feedback we are proposing that the current ‘Wellbeing' topic is incorporated in the new 'Adult mental health and wellbeing' profile.

Introduction

The mental health and wellbeing joint strategic needs assessment (JSNA) profile provides information with which to support health and wellbeing boards to produce local mental health and wellbeing JSNAs. The profile collates and presents a wide range of data, developed from a variety of relevant, robust sources. The profiling tool allows planners, providers and stakeholders to profile their area and benchmark against similar populations. The aim is to provide information for improvement, not judgement.

Tool structure

The JSNA profiling tool brings together a range of data, presented in the form of indicators, which are divided into six topic areas:

  • prevalence and incidence
  • risk factors
  • protective factors
  • wellbeing
  • services
  • quality and outcomes

A number of geographies are available with which to view each indicator and these include NHS geographies such as integrated care board (ICB), and local government geographies such as upper tier local authority (UTLA) and regions, as well as England level data.

Supporting information

The profile is supported by a range of intelligence products with which to assist health professionals when producing JSNAs. These resources can be found at:
