The goal of this guidance is to help professionals improve care and the consequences of diabetes.
Where the data comes from
The data used to generate the indicators comes from different sources, including:
- routine primary care data
- national survey data
- national clinical audit data
- hospital records
If the data is available, the profiles allow user to view the at numerous geographies against different benchmarks and over different time-periods. The data presented focuses on adults with diabetes.
Other resources are available that have data specific to children and young people with diabetes.
How the data is organised
We have grouped the data into 9 topics:
- Summary: this gives a high-level summary of the indicators available in this profile.
- Risk factors: data on the factors associated with higher chance of developing diabetes.
- Prevalence: the frequency of diabetes, by type and different demographics.
- Care processes: the extent to which practice meet standards recommended by NICE.
- Treatment targets: Measures of the extent to which important treatment targets are achieved. How well blood glucose and blood pressure are controlled and statin prescription aligns with NICE guidance.
- Structured education. Referral and attendance of newly diagnosed to educational courses to support self-management.
- Complications and mortality: complications associated with eye disease and foot disease, as well as mortality outcomes associated with diabetes.
- QOF interventions: indicators from the Quality and Outcomes Framework for diabetes and non-diabetic hyperglycaemia.
- Retired NDA indicators: old care processes and treatment targets data from prior to the financial year ending March 2025.
