The two indicators 'hospital admissions due to liver disease' and 'hospital admission rate for alcoholic liver disease' have been refreshed with 2021/22 data using a new methodolgy for calculating the confidence intervals. The new method takes into account a single person having multiple readmissions in the year. Previous data has been temporarily removed as it is no longer comparable with the 2021/22 data. These will be recalculated when the backseries rebased 2021 census population estimates are available.

All Premature mortality single-year indicators are now available for 2021. This new data use the ONS mid-year population estimates following the 2021 census. Previous single-year and 3-year data has been temporarily removed as it is no longer comparable with the 2021 data. These will be recalculated when the backseries rebased 2021 census population estimates are available.

October 2022

Integrated Care Board level data including trend data has been made available for the main premature mortality and hospital admission indicators. Data are available for the periods from 2001-2003 to 2017-2019 at ICB geographies. Due to the potential impact of COVID-19 on the data, indicators are also presented as single years up to 2020 where numbers allow. Trend data have been adjusted to also take into account the changes in cause of death coding software and ICD10 coding making data comparable to the most recent 2020 data.

2020/21 data is now available for the indicator: Percentage of adults (aged 18+) classified as overweight or obese.

March 2022

The provisional HES data for 2020/21 has now been finalised. Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (RAJ) notified NHS Digital of a data quality issue with submitted diagnosis data for the financial year ending 2021. As a result the annual HES extract was corrected and reissued. Using the reissued data the 3 HES indicators in the liver profile, on fingertips, and the statistical commentary have now been corrected. The impact was most noticeable for the counties and UAs in the East of England and London. This correction is then reflected in the higher geographies and deprivation deciles.

Additionally 2020/21 data is now available for the indicator 'Admission episodes for alcoholic-specific conditions' 

January 2022

PROVISIONAL DATA: The HES data for 2020/21 should be regarded as provisional. Mid And South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (RAJ) has notified NHS Digital of a data quality issue with submitted diagnosis data. Although it was not possible to correct the issue in time for publication, NHS Digital will re-process and we will update the data following publication.

Hospital admissions data for 2020/21 has been made available for the indicators on rates of admission for liver disease and alcoholic liver disease, and for the first time single year data is available for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

The 3-year data for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has been refreshed for the year for 2017/18-2019/20 to the 2021 geographies. Due to the potential impact of COVID-19 3-year pooled data is not provided for the latest year and instead single year data has been made available.

Previous data for these indicators have been revised to account for the new 2021 local authority geographies.

Hospital admissions for alcoholic liver disease in males in Herefordshire, Thurrock, Windsor & Maidenhead and Wandsworth, and in females in Rutland that were supressed in the initial upload of the liver disease profiles, are now presented in the November refresh.
