Introduction

The Peer Benchmarking Tool contains a selection of indicators that reflect PHE’s national priorities. They provide a summary of determinants, risk factors and outcomes using indicators available in other Fingertips tools - particularly the Public Health Outcomes Framework. They are broken down into the following categories:

  • Giving children and young people the best start in life
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Sexual health
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Dementia
  • Health inequalities
  • Health checks
  • PHE's core offer to the NHS

These can be found on the core indicators page here.

The following indicators from the Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF) have been added to the Core indicators domain:

2.01 – Low birth weight of term babies
2.03 – Smoking status at time of delivery
2.04 – Under 18 conceptions
2.15iii – Successful completion of alcohol treatment

The “Recent updates” domain includes all Core indicators updated in February 2017 and any other PHOF indicators, which were updated at the same time.

Local PHE teams are updating indicators in their regional priorities domains. To support this, some additional functionality is now available:

  • For Area Types "County & UA", and "District & UA", it is now possible to group into "Combined Authorities" (where these are established).
  • The Area Type "CCG" has been added, allowing grouping by Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs).

Please note some indicators, geographies and groups are only available on some domains. Only a few indicators are currently presented in the Peer Benchmarking Tool at CCG and STP geographies at this time.
